ARTIST OF THE WEEK! Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and bassist Dean Cameron is on a self-proclaimed quest to prove that actors can actually make good music. With his new artist project Low Speed Chase, he seems bound to do just that.

Cameron, best known for his role as Chainsaw in the classic 80s film Summer School, as well as the lead role of Dave Marshak in the cult classic Ski School movies, more than demonstrates his artistic versatility with his latest record "Expect Delays." Balancing a classic and alternative rock sensibility throughout the album, Low Speed Chase's sound has a unique ability to bounce between moments of stripped-back singer-songwriter intimacy and bigger anthemic rock glory.

The glue to it all is Cameron's witty, self-referential lyrics, which similarly balance their humorous veneer with genuinely vulnerable insights. Describing their sound as "Fountains of Wayne and King's X make out while listening to Jellyfish after a Ben Folds gig," that about nails it on the head.

This is an act that will loosen you up with their humor only to bang ya hard with their undeniable gift for rock music. There is certainly a welcome nostalgia to digging into this record — but above all we get the sense these are the sounds that Cameron is truly passionate about exploring.

Stand out tracks on the album include the killer album opener "Murder," and the slow building classic-rock feeling "Cowboy in Love," and "Chris Korn El" which speaks for itself. The attached track, the excellent single "Whiskey" (that also has an amazing music video worth checking out), perhaps best embodies the qualities that define Low Speed Chase. A perpetually evolving ballad exploring Cameron's relationship to the liquor — it is filled with those clever dichotomies (funny/serious, love/hate, detachment/passion) that seem to define the artistic expression of Low Speed Chase.
